Wonga Wetlands will be hosting a free talk by Pro Rick Spencer and James Van Dyke PhD lecturer on the state of turtle populations in the Murray River.
Charles Sturt and Western Sydney University researchers James Van Dyke and Prof Rick Spencer will give an outline of their research work so far and proposed actions to save the Murray River turtle population.
Australian turtles are at risk, half of our 25 species are listed as vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered. Rick and James will cover the effects of fox and road kills on the turtle population as well as their proposal to set up a regional turtle hatchery like a Wonga Wetlands with baby turtles being stocked around the regions waterways similar to fish stockings.
