Thank you to BankWAW for their support of yet another ‘Banking on Trees’ community planting morning! This year we planted along a wetland corridor off Carrolls Lane, Wodonga, which will create a biodiversity connection to Wodonga Creek. This area is Crown land and will form part of the route of Project 66 – our project to undertake landscape-scale restoration of 66 km of riverine environments along the Murray River and its tributaries.

The weather was fantastic and with help from BankWAW staff, Parklands rangers, and the community, we managed to get a massive 700 plants in the ground! So well done and many thanks to all who came along to lend a hand to do some good for our local environment.

A mixture of seedlings were planted including prickly wattle (Acacia paradoxa), hickory wattle (Acacia implexa), silver wattle (Acacia dealbata), blackwood (Acacia melanoxylon), varnish wattle (Acacia verniciflua), sweet bursaria (Bursaria spinosa), tall sedge (Carex appressa), and river bottlebrush (Callistemon sieberi). These species will cope with the odd flooding event and provide food and shelter for a range of native species.

Remember you can check out the Events page on our website to see all the upcoming events – there are lots of opportunities to be involved with planting during August. If you’d like to arrange a group to come planting, please contact us directly.
