  3. Community Stewardship Program – An Opportunity to Give Back

Our Community Stewardship Program continues throughout October, November, and December in some of the most spectacular reserves and high-quality conservation areas in our region. So if you’re looking to end 2024 on a positive note, why not come along and contribute to the management and improvement of our beautiful natural areas?

Park Stewards are our core volunteers, giving time on a casual or regular basis as suits individuals best. Feel free to come along every week or just once in a while; we are always happy and grateful to have some helping hands!

The various parks and reserves you’ll be working in include Browns Lagoon, Heathwood Park, Eastern Hill, Monument Hill, Horseshoe Lagoon, Six Mile Creek, Vickers Road Reserve, and Corrys Wood Parklands.

It’s all super easy! No prior experience or knowledge is required – Parklands Rangers will guide you in everything you need to do, with our current focus being on tackling woody weeds. Removal of these invasive species allows more space and resources for native species to flourish, which will attract, and provide food and habitat for, lots of native critters. At the same time, you’ll learn about the local environment and how our local land managers and community groups are working to protect threatened species, improve habitat, and link habitat corridors across the region.

This is invaluable experience for those interested in, or studying for, an environmental career. It’s also a great chance to get outside in nature, which we all know is terrific for our mental health! Not to mention, an awesome opportunity to give back to our community!

Volunteers are welcome to come along for two hours on a Thursday morning (9:00 am to 11:00 am) with sessions running weekly up until the 12th of December before a break over the hotter weeks of summer. Stewardship mornings will then resume on the 6th of February 2025.

We hope to see you out there!

See our Events listings for details and meeting places for each session (and don’t forget to register so we know you’re coming)!

Thank you to Albury City Council for the financial support for this program.
