Planting in winter 2024 has been much more difficult due to limited rainfall resulting in much harder soils to dig through!
Parklands would like to extend a big thank you to staff from Mars Petcare for their efforts in planting a corridor along Mahers Lane, Bonegilla, on Thursday September 6. This habitat corridor will connect to the Kiewa River and make traversing the landscape easier for native species.
Mars Petcare staff efforts were made that much more challenging as they encountered rock that is believed to date back to the Ordovician period. During this time, 488 – 443 million years ago, Victoria was an ocean floor and Australia was connected to the supercontinent Gondwana. Victoria and eastern Australia was built up by sedimentation, mountain-building, and volcanism. Along the coastline of ancient Australia, magma erupted through faults in the crust and hardened on the sea floor, forming chains of islands.
