The not-so-popular poplars and the pesky downstream willows are about to be removed at Killara. From Monday 10th December, the Kiewa River trail will be closed, with access restricted for at least a fortnight.
After years of fighting suckers and seedlings and cleaning up dead branches as the poplars near the end of their life, the North East Catchment Management Authority and Parklands are working together to address the issues degrading this popular area, removing weeds and improving river access.
The poplars and seedling willows along the river will be removed over the coming weeks. Replacement plantings with more suitable species in winter and new picnic furniture will bring the reserve up to standard for residents and visitors to enjoy.
