27th November is ‘Giving Tuesday’, when we are asked to pledge money or goods to a cause of our choice.
Parklands do have a cause – our Naturally Resourceful appeal – and we would of course appreciate any donations to our fundraising efforts. But what we would really love is to see people taking some time to enjoy the amazing natural assets of our region:
Go for a paddle on the mighty Murray river…
Walk your dog, clear your head after work, do your 10,000 steps, or just get some friends together for a walk on one of the many bush tracks in our local parks and reserves, from the Gateway Island paved pathway to the natural tracks along the Kiewa River…
Hike the Hume and Hovell walking track between Albury and Yass, or set up a camp in one of the bush parks along the track and do some day hikes – Woomargama National Park is a gem…
Take Parklands ‘Seven Summits Challenge‘ and post a selfie on Facebook from the top of seven local peaks: Budginigi, Eastern Hill, Nail Can Hill, Mahers Hill, Huon Hill, Federeation Hill, McFarlanes Hill…
Take the family for a bush picnic at one of our favourite spots; along the Rail Trail on Middle Creek, taking in the view at the Huon Hill Lookout, on the Rail Trail further out at Sandy Creek Bridge, along the Kiewa River downstream of Killara, at the base of Budginigi at Table Top.
So, this Giving Tuesday, pledge some time to yourself and your family to appreciate our local environmental gems and celebrate the work of our community in creating, restoring and maintaining these beautiful spaces.
