Parklands have been successful in a submission for funds to help build environmental management skills within the community through the restoration of five local Murray River islands next year.
The project will offer a range of opportunities for students, aboriginal land managers and community volunteers to work alongside Parklands Rangers learning practical skills in environmental restoration and traditional land management.
Grays Island, Browns Island, Gateway Island, Bidja Bila Island and Travellers Island will benefit from habitat improvement through stock exclusion fencing, revegetation, removal of environmental woody weeds and small-scale ecological burning.
There will be some fun outdoor elements such as paddling and island camping as the project unfolds, with room to develop experiences to meet the needs of other organisations. If your school or group is interested in getting involved please contact Ant at info@parklands-alburywodonga.org.au
The ‘Five Island Habitat Restoration and Stewardship’ project is funded with the support of the Victorian Government.
