Moderate flooding of the Kiewa River will no longer put the brakes on those wishing to use the High Country Rail Trail near Killara! Bonegilla Rail Trail Advisory Group members and Parklands Albury Wodonga were joined by Rail Trail supporters for a celebratory walk along the improved sections on 13 March.
The new installations include re-decking of the Kiewa River footbridge and a new boardwalk at Middle Creek. These updates make the Rail Trail safer and more enjoyable during wetter weather when flooding of the Kiewa River would cut access or make the ground unsuitable for bike riding. Cooling autumn temperatures are perfect for getting on the bike and enjoying the spectacular scenery and historical points of interest along the way, so why not give it a go? You can learn more about the trail here.
Thank you to Wodonga Men’s Shed for expertly welding the boardwalk frames together.
This project was possible thanks to the Australian Government’s Black Summer Bushfire Recovery program.
