New mountain bike trails are now open at Hunchback Mountain Bike Park! The Mountain Bike Park can be found in the McFarlanes Hill Regional Park and is a popular spot for the every-growing sport of mountain biking, with a range of trails to suit different skill levels.
A group of keen, young mountain bikers were the first through the new Mudstone Loop at the official opening. Each Monday, these riders are honing their skills thanks to training from Fastline Bike Academy. A team of local mountain bikers along with Fastline staff have also contributed significantly to the realignment works through the installation of wayfinding signs as well as brushcutting and mowing to maintain the tracks over the spring and summer growing periods.
In addition to work on the green-graded Mudstone Loop, two other loops were also realigned, including the more challenging blue-graded Slate and Granite Loops. Did you know the trails get their names from the different rock types found at McFarlanes Hill including sedimentary (Mudstone), metamorphic (Slate and Gneiss), and igneous (Granite and Quartz)?!
Many thanks to local businesses, Terrain Trails Construction and Red Gum Consulting, for going above and beyond in delivering this work, which was undertaken thanks to funding from the Australian Government’s Black Summer Bushfire Recovery program.
