Jacksons Earthmoving have commenced new gravel surfacing on the rail trail through Wodonga’s urban areas between Mill Street, North Wodonga and Whytes Road, Bandiana.
The new surface incorporates 30% crushed recycled glass in the gravel mix. Contrary to what might be expected of riding on broken glass, the finely ground glass makes a top quality surface. The trail is being graded, gravelled and rolled this week.
This work is being managed by the Bonegilla Rail Trail Advisory Group under the auspices of Parklands Albury Wodonga, with support from the Australian Government, Indigo Shire Council and Goulburn Murray Water.
The Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund has provided $125,000 towards significant upgrades to a local section of the High Country Rail Trail in 2018/19. Works include resurfacing the rail trail through Wodonga to improve the link to Sandy Creek, and upgrading the toilet facilities at Huon Reserve.
