Late in July, Parklands board and staff joined the Duduroa Dhargal Aboriginal Corporation (DDAC) team and North East Catchment Management’s Wetlands expert Corinne Hutchinson for a guided tour of the iconic Winton Wetlands.

We took in everything from artworks to visitor infrastructure, interpretive signage to engineering, cultural heritage and wetland management to endangered species release programs – a fascinating and incredibly informative experience.  We were particularly privileged to see the Growling Grass Frog recovery project including breeding labs and bespoke ponds for the Growlers.

A big thank you to Winton Wetlands staff Dr Lisa Farnsworth, Nicki James and Sarah Way for sharing their experiences of restoring these magnificent wetlands and reconnecting people with country.

We all left inspired by the Winton Wetland team’s landscape scale achievements and brimming with ideas to apply at Ryans Lagoon Wetlands in Bonegilla, where Parklands and DDAC are working together to bring traditional management back into the wetlands restoration program.
