After some issues with poor riding weather in September, the inaugural Bike-Food-Trail rides in Wodonga proved a huge hit.
Starting with a delicious hot quiche at the Birallee Park Neighbourhood House in West Wodonga, we learned about the community garden and kitchen combining fresh produce and unwanted foods from the community into beautiful fresh and frozen meals as part of the Our Table to Yours program – with volunteers taking part in every aspect.
From there we mounted up and cycled our merry way to Albury Wodonga Foodshare. Here Peter Matthews shared the amazing story behind the organisation which is co-ordinating the sharing of excess and unwanted foods with those in need in Albury Wodonga.
Our last cycling leg ended at the SAC on the Lincoln Causeway, where we were wowed by a delicious Bhutanese lunch catered by the Bhutanese Community Farm.
The 12 km ride was a delight and participants had our eyes opened by the incredible community work going on every day behind the scenes to stop food waste and connect people in need with wholesome food. Many thanks to Claire for organising, to our hosts Ed Fulston Amanda Skrypczak at Birallee Park and Peter Matthews at Albury Wodonga Foodshare, and to Madhu, Buddi and Tilak from the Bhutanese Community Farm for your wonderful catering.
