Professional landscaper Leigh Holland’s passion for mountain biking has led him into new territory with the development of a world standard trail construction business based in Wodonga.
Terrain Trail Construction has been working on the Hunchback Hill ‘Quartz’ track with Parklands rangers and volunteers, donating an extraordinary amount of time and energy to creating an International Mountain Biking standard trail. Parklands ranger Shane Vanderwerf has been amazed by Leigh’s generosity and passion for the work – “He has just done so much, we could never have achieved this standard in this time without his skill and his equipment”.
Leigh’s involvement with Parklands is driven by his vision for a linked network of mountain bike and cycling trails in the region. He believes the trail network has huge potential as a regional attraction for families, distinct from but complementing other trail destinations such as Mt Buller and Falls Creek. The flow on economic effects for Albury Wodonga would be significant, as would the social and health benefits for families making use of the trails. Leigh loves the opportunities mountain biking brings for connecting people with nature and engaging young people in healthy outdoor activity.
Terrain Trail Constructions had contributed to the restoration and building of several trails with Parklands before the Hunchback Hill project. As Leigh points out, “It’s not about the money, I just love being able to help people experience some of the beautiful places we have in the area”.
Leigh’s landscape shaping skills have been honed through 15 years in the landscaping trade. His landscaping business, Livingzone, made access to the tools and machinery needed for trail building easy, and the logical progression combining his passion and skills was to launch into trail building as an enterprise. The Hunchback Hill Quartz track is not only a track well worth riding, but the latest in a local, living 3D portfolio of what Terrain Trail Construction does best.
Parklands is proud to be associated with this generous company and thank Leigh for the energy and exacting standards he has brought to our trail building projects.
