Baranduda locals and residents of the new Sweet Water Ridge housing estate off Chapples Road will be able to access the Kiewa River walking trail without getting their feet muddy once new steel boardwalks are installed.

A big THANK YOU to local suppliers Steeline Albury for their recent donation of RHS steel.  Volunteers with Wodonga Men’s Shed have fabricated this steel into boardwalks, to be installed on the low-lying sections of the river trail when floodwaters recede this summer.

The Kiewa River boardwalks are the first batch of a number of boardwalks that will be fabricated and installed in the coming months. The boardwalk projects are being supported by both the Victorian Government (Living Local program) and the Australian Government (Black Summer Bushfire Recovery program).

These grant programs are providing much-needed finances into the local economy; contributing to local businesses through procurement of steel, mesh decking and other consumables, and funding the Wodonga Men’s Shed to fabricate the boardwalks.

New boardwalks will be installed in autumn 2023 across ephemeral waterways along the 66km riverside trail between Lake Hume and Albury Wodonga, bringing the mission of the Murray River Red Gum Trail Steering Group one step closer to fruition.
