Parklands Albury Wodonga’s  ‘Trestles, Trolls and Campfire Coals’ event in 2019 seems long ago and far away now, yet the 80 people who attended will recall fondly the camaraderie, the shared yarns and the great interest in the historic trestle bridges of the Upper Murray.

Parklands are pleased to announce a new project centred on the four historic bridges spared in the 2019 bushfires in the region.

With the support of the Victorian Government through the Nature-Led Community Recovery program, the project will deliver on community aspirations expressed in the Upper Murray 2030 vision

The project will enable people to visit four unique timber railway bridges on the High Country Rail Trail in The Needles reserve, creating three short walks, installing maps as well as wayfinding and interpretive signage and improving the natural assets at the site.

Creating interpretive signage will provide opportunities for local knowledge holders, First Nations artists and historians to illuminate the natural and cultural heritage assets of these sites for visitors, bringing the experience of local people to the heart of the project.

As part of this exciting project, Parklands invites First Nations artists living in the Upper Murray to express interest in providing artwork for these interpretive signs. Inspiration for prospective artists can be found in the audio stories on the Man from Snowy River Museum website.
