There was an exciting response last night to the first in our Open Ideas talks series.

Over 40 people attended the Albury Library Museum to hear Charlie Showers talk about the innovative approaches to local food systems he experienced in Vermont, USA.

The room was buzzing with enthusiasm as people passionate about food, cooperatives and doing things differently chewed over Charlie’s gems and bounced ideas around about how these ideas might be applied here.

The success of the evening indicates the great value in creating a space for talking about these issues and connecting people who are working in this area.

The Open Ideas series is designed be an ignition point to cross pollinate ideas, start to work more collaboratively, and to feed into local and regional plans about food hubs and community supported agriculture.

“Agro-ecology for small local growers”. Presenter: Rob Fenton of Riverina TAFE National Environment Centre
“Creating a social enterprise community hub”. Presenters: Helen Masterman-Smith and John Rafferty of the Murray Darling Regional Centre for Excellence in Sustainability Education
