With perfect timing, Sheldon Smith chose to undertake his queen scout environment badge just as the new Bushfire Management Strategy for Wodonga’s environmental lands was being finalised last year.

When Sheldon approached Parklands to help him design and lead an environmental project this seemed a great match.

Along with members of the Wodonga and 1st Baranduda Venturers Groups, Sheldon went on to lead a community awareness campaign in high risk areas adjoining the environmental lands managed by Parklands. The campaign involved designing and distributing fliers on how residents can prepare for summer, consistent with the new Bushfire Management Strategy.

Wodonga’s environmental lands are managed by the City of Wodonga and Parklands Albury Wodonga; each organisation having their own areas to care for. The new Strategy is a collaborative effort to ensure that both organisations follow the same risk based approach, use consistent fire management treatments and share the same vision for fire management in the environmental lands surrounding our city.
