Throughout the world there is growing recognition of the vital contribution parks make to a healthy environment, to the health of individuals and to a healthy society. Victorians are very fortunate to have inherited a world-class network of parks and reserves, now accounting for more than 17% of Victoria.

Parks Victoria is responsible for managing these marvellous national and state parks, marine national parks and sanctuaries, regional and major metropolitan parks and conservation reserves. Many well known historic properties and gardens, and Melbourne’s bays and major waterways are also managed by Parks Victoria.

Parks Victoria aims to protect the natural and cultural values of these parks and other assets, while providing a great range of outdoor opportunities for all Victorians and visitors to enjoy.

Parks Victoria has supported Parklands in many different ways over the past decades:

• Membership of the Parklands Board. Hamish MacLennan, Parks Victoria Chief Ranger served as Chairman of the Parklands Board in 2009.
• Provision of an Annual grant to support works on Crown land, now discontinued,
• Technical support from staff,
• Full time secondment from Beechworth Parks Office for two months in 2007,
• Environmental burns and ‘candling’ of Stringybark Trees at Parklands’ high conservation value reserves including Bonegilla Grasslands and Stringybark Reserve.
