Next Sunday March 20 runners will make their mark in the inaugural running of the Riverina Lightning Trail.
The Riverina Lightning is a 10km flat Trail Run along the beautiful Kiewa River Trail. The course follows one wide trail out and back.
The trail is flat, sturdy and well shaded with some nice sweeping turns as it follows the River, making it the perfect event for people to make a debut on the local trail running scene. The gift of this run is that it has the stunning scenery that trails tend to offer but without the hills that require some conditioning to.
Trail Running tends to let people relax a lot more than traditional road runs where times are paramount and pressure can be fierce. Competitors usually approach it to chase a feeling rather than a time, however its usually that more relaxed approach that brings about the best in us!
Event organiser Brendan Murray is expecting a good number of starters. Many people will be looking to build on recent events such as the weekly parkrun, City2City and Cumberoona Runs. Its a great way to start gearing up for the 40th Nail Can Hill Run.
The best thing about running off road is that its kind on the body. In terms of punishment on the body, concrete is the worst at 10/10, asphalt rates a 7 and a trail is somewhere around 4 in comparison.
A feast of local and regional talent have been invited to vie for the 10km Off Road Championship Title. Our aim is to bring more people to the sport and present the Kiewa Trail as somewhere they can come all year round to walk, ride and run.
