Restoration work started on the old trestle bridge over Bullioh Dry Forest creek on Monday of this week. This marks the beginning of the 4th trestle bridge restoration on the High Country Railtrail under the guidance of the Tallangatta and Bonegilla Railtrail Advisory Groups.

The 70m span historic bridge has gradually fallen into disrepair, with some sections completely collapsed and a large amount of timber and supporting structures needing to be replaced. With the generous assistance of the farmers of the Kiewa Valley replacement timber has been sourced, so the restored bridge will be made of local timber just as was the original in the early 1900’s.

Volunteers and rangers have looked forward to this project and made an enthusiastic start on Monday. With the support and professional experience of Tallangatta Construction and Maintenance (TCM Constuctions), and the expertise of project manager John Shaw (of the Puffing Billy Railway), the restoration project is expected to take at least a year.
