The Hume and Hovell Walking Track stretches over 440km between Yass and Albury and allows walkers to rediscover the route of explorers Hamilton Hume and William Hovell on their expedition to Port Phillip in 1824.  The track starts at Cooma Cottage on the outskirts of Yass and finishes at the Hovell Tree on the banks of the Murray River in Albury. It has campsites, picnic facilities, numerous boardwalks and three major bridges over rivers.

Parklands have recently partnered with Tumbarumba Shire Council to maintain the Track between Albury and Woomargama. The partnership tendered successfully to manage a 77km section between Norieul Park in Albury and Woomargama National Park, and we envisage really opening up the Trail to local communities along the way.

This is an exciting opportunity to get up-close and personal with a significant piece of local heritage, and we invite all with an interest to join us in taking ownership of the Trail in our local area. If you are a walker, lend us your eyes and ears, and tell us about any issues, risks, maintenance, weeds or things you notice that could be improved. If you have ideas for activities or events on the Trail that tie in with your local community or significant dates in your calendar, let us know!

We also invite people to become ‘stewards’ of small, local sections of this significant heritage trail; keeping an eye on it, working with us to look after it and advising on the local aspects of maintaining and improving it. We encourage regular walkers, individuals, groups, neighbours and businesses to talk to us about getting involved, as together we can surely do better!
