A big thank you to the Country Fire Authority volunteers and Emergency Management Team for their significant efforts over the past two days to prevent a bushfire on Klings Hills that was started by lightning from spreading into the regional parklands and West Wodonga.
Whilst it would have been a good opportunity for a “cold burn” of McFarlanes Hill and Swainsona, the close proximity of houses and the strong winds could have meant a really serious situation.
Parklands looks forward to working closely with Traditional Owner Groups and the NECMA based Indigenous Landcare Facilitator to implement mosaic traditional environmental burns during the wetter seasons so that we can manage fire fuel loads sustainably into the future.
Noeline Elvin, Parklands Albury Wodonga’s Finance Manager was temporarily (for five minutes!) given the reigns of coordinating the CFA trucks and over 150 volunteers at the Staging Area in West Wodonga late on Tuesday evening, 17th December 2014.
