Out and about on the High Country Rail Trail this week, our Parklands Ranger used only one spray tank to spray blackberries along a 10km stretch of corridor. In early years this task would have taken weeks, so this is an extraordinary outcome in this, the wettest year in 97 years.
The credit lies with the Bonegilla Rail Trail Advisory Group, who have kept up with the constant regrowth and maintained this trail in such good condition. A big thanks to the group and particularly to volunteers Max and Greg who have been regularly mowing the rail trail verges with the new BAG slasher and trailer.
Thank you to the City of Wodonga for the new sloping trailer making this work so much safer for the group. Funded through Council’s Impact Grant program, the special trailer is a much safer and easier way for the slasher to access / egress the trailer than standard ramps.
Despite the joys of upgraded equipment, it has certainly been a very long season with so much rain generating much more growth and mowing than is usual. Time for hard working volunteers to take a break and take in some of the great views across Lake Hume.
