Volunteers with the Tallangatta Rail Trail Advisory Group have been working on an upgrade to the historic railway site at Tallangatta, milling new hardwood timbers to replace the rotting timber on the old platform.

The new platform timbers improve both amenity and safety while preserving the historic nature of the site.

The work accompanies a new sign on the Tallangatta Goods shed, including a reproduction of a recently donated original sketch of the layout of the former Tallangatta Railway Station. A big thank you to Towong Shire Council for printing the new sign, which has been mounted on the Tallangatta Goods Shed exterior wall for all to appreciate.  

And there are plenty appreciating the works! Thanks to Rail Trails Australia and the Bonegilla Rail Trail Advisory Group we are now able to count visitors to the trail. The groups contributed towards the purchase of digital trail counters, which have shown, in the past six months, a total of 65,802 people using the High Country Rail Trail.  

That is a lot of walkers and cyclists connecting with nature and heritage!
