Whilst Gough Whitlam once said that Jean Whitla was one letter short of greatness, we here at Parklands Albury Wodonga revered Jean for much more than greatness. Jean was generous with her time, knowledge, and humour.
As a former journalist and secretary/life member of Wodonga and District Historical Society, Jean’s meticulous attention to detail in proof reading drafts of hundreds of interpretive signs ensured that these signs, installed across Parklands Albury Wodonga’s regional parks, were historically and grammatically correct.
Jean was also a passionate gardener, gifting her personally propagated seedlings to plant across the regional park network. It is difficult to miss Jean’s native Silky Oaks that have started to take off, forming a welcoming entrance to the High Country Rail Trail at Victoria Cross Parade in Wodonga.
Condolences to Jean’s family. How lucky have we all been to have had 4 days short of 98 years of Jean’s presence!
