Parklands Rangers and volunteers have been busy catching up on park maintenance at the Waterworks Regional Park after the recent floods.

Jobs including regular mowing and maintenance around bollards, park seats and along the nature trails in the park are adding a new level of service to this popular local swimming and picnic spot.

Featuring an extra long ‘float’ of 1km in the beautiful Murray river, plus a particularly good launch spot for canoes, the park is attracting more and more visitors. A big thank you to the Rotary Club of Albury Foundation for financial support to contract a Supported Employment maintenance team, enabling us to step up the management of Waterworks Regional Park.

With flood waters finally receding from areas inundated for nearly two months, it’s a relief to see wetland grasses planted last winter still thriving.  As the photo below shows, some species haven’t coped so well. These will be replaced in the next planting round.

The flooding also caused erosion, and the Murray Valley Centre team have been installing sandbags at heavily patronised areas to address this. Donations of any used sandbags are most welcome – please contact us if you have any to spare.

Once flood issues have been addressed, the maintenance program will be back on track, including creating a safer and improved amenity canoe launching area.
