Parklands are pleased to support the Duduroa Dhargal Traditional Owner Group to manage Ryans Lagoon Wetlands for the next three years.

Backed by the Victorian Government’s Nature Fund, the Ryans Lagoon Traditional Land Management program is one of six projects led by Aboriginal organisations within the program’s Caring for Country stream, including supporting the Wurundjeri’s Narrap Rangers to practice and share traditional land management knowledge, and the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation, partnering with Parks Victoria, to deliver predator control.

The Ryans Lagoon project will engage a Duduroa Elder as Ranger to manage the 165ha nationally significant Ryans Lagoon Wetlands. The project will provide a training ground for First Nations people in traditional land management such as ecological thinning, burning, cultural harvesting, pest control and cultural activities. It will include regular gatherings of traditional knowledge holders from across Australia to share skills, knowledge and culture.

All aspects of the project will be overseen by the Duduroa Dhargal Aboriginal Corporation Traditional Owners, bringing many years of experience in Landcare, land management and the application of cultural knowledge back to Ryans Lagoon.
