Student Marie Knight is back with Parklands this week for a placement block to finish her second year of Environmental Science and Management with Charles Sturt University in Albury.

This is Marie’s second time around with Parklands, having enjoyed a block of hours with us for her first year ‘Introduction to Environmental Practice’ subject. This current placement focuses on community and stakeholder engagement, and Marie has been enjoying a variety of experiences with Parklands Rangers, out and about with our community partners.

With 4 days already down out of the 50 hours of placement, Marie has been planting for revegetation on fire affected farms in the Upper Murray, monitoring nest boxes in Wodonga’s Regional parks and on a tour of Lake Hume checking out a new project site on the foreshore with Parklands Board members, volunteers, Departmental staff and Parklands Rangers.

With a family farming background, Marie particularly enjoyed working alongside the Upper Murray farmers, relating easily to their situation. She said the range of experiences she has been able to participate in with Parklands has given her a much better idea of what it’s like working in the field and the direction she may like to take her final year in the course.
