Despite the light rain last weekend, an enthusiastic group pitched in for the first of our Friends of the Murray community working bees.

Thank you to the next generation for your energy and efforts removing most of the environmental weeds along Wodonga Creek near the Stockies Bridge. This will give native plants the space to flourish along the new walking trail on Gateway Island west.

In a mere two hours, close to 700 metres of invasive Box Elder, Privet, Prunus and Cedar all succumbed to the bow saw and poison. Fleabane and purple top were hand pulled and limbs overhanging the nature trail were pruned to improve visitor safety.

Wire was removed from two redundant cross fences and the slope of the access to the new boardwalk levelled to make it more accessible to all.

Further community working bees are planned for other riverside trails at Killara, Baranduda, Gateway Island and the Waterworks. These are detailed on our events page, and all community members are most welcome.
