Parklands Albury Wodonga are thrilled to announce a new project supporting community members to contribute to ecosystem resilience in our climate stressed landscape. The Landcare Led Bushfire Recovery project is supported by the Australian Government’s Bushfire Recovery Program for Wildlife and their Habitat.

The Landcare Led Bushfire Recovery Grant enables employment of Field Recovery Rangers to create landscape scale wildlife corridors in the project areas, support the work of community led Friends and Landcare groups, and connect people very directly with nature and being part of the climate adaptation process.

The project encompasses nature reserves from Wodonga to Cudgewa, including Baranduda Regional Park, Koetong, Shelley, Beetoomba, Berringama, Cudgewa Creek, Boundary Creek and Boggy Creek.

Ecosystem resilience activities will include controlling environmental weeds in 350 hectares of quality Box Gum Grassy Woodlands and 21 hectares of waterways to remove competition with native species. The installation of stock exclusion fencing will create landscape scale wildlife corridors to allow regeneration of climate adapted native flora and provide safe passage for native fauna to travel and adapt to the changing climate.

The project will also deliver a Ranger-led Box Gum Grasslands Stewardship program with on-ground sessions giving volunteers direct experience of habitat restoration, including the installation, maintenance and monitoring of nest boxes. In addition, the project will resource existing and new Friends groups to deliver restoration works in the project areas.
