With school holidays approaching and beautiful spring weather to enjoy, September is a perfect time to take a trip and support the region’s bushfire affected areas.
Off the Hume Highway near Holbrook – only 35 minutes north of Albury – is the largest protected area of forest west of the Great Dividing Range: Woomargama National Park. Rich in both history and biodiversity, the park includes a variety of ecological communities and provides the perfect place for photographers and observers of nature, camping, mountain biking, short walks and hiking.
Features include the famous Hume and Hovell walking track, traversing the park for 43 km from Lankeys Creek to Tunnel Road.
The park is much loved by locals who have been involved with protecting the unique Phantom wattle and other rare native species.
