The green banks of the Kiewa River provided the perfect setting for the launch of Wodonga’s new Waterway Action Plan on Thursday.

The launch coincided with a site visit by members of the Victorian Catchment Management Council, who were keen to learn more about community management and partnership models in our region – the Kiewa River restoration sites at Killara providing an excellent example.

The Wodonga Regional Waterway Action Plan was officially launched by Wodonga Urban Landcare Network president Julie Hind, with project partner representatives Leon Schultz of Wodonga Council and Katie Warner of NECMA, to an audience of community and Landcare group members joining the VCMC representatives.

Restoration works were a highlight as dignitaries and guests walked the Kiewa track with Parklands ranger Danny Jones, learning about changes and community involvement with the river over the past 20 years.

The new plan was on show along with a display of works on the Kiewa over the years. Guests enjoyed morning tea featuring a specially made Kiewa River cake, a walk on the Kiewa track, and a BBQ lunch from the National Environment Centre’s organic farm.
