As part of this year’s Feast High Country, Parklands staff and High Country Rail Trail volunteers certainly came up with a warming winter winner with ‘Trestles, Trolls and Campfire Coals’. The event combined a short hike on the Rail Trail at Lucyvale, taking in historic trestle bridges, with a traditional campfire cookup.
More than 75 people enjoyed an informative walk followed by a delicious cook-up. The meal, featuring home-made damper and kangaroo stew, was accompanied by bush poetry and yarns, amidst the warm, smokey ambience of campfires in the paddock.
While some people were put off by the afternoon rain on the day, in fact the weather held and a full rainbow graced the arrival of the first walkers. We hope this event will be the first of many celebrating our high country landscapes, introducing people to the wonders of the old rail line and the delights of an aussie campfire in autumn.
Many thanks to the many volunteer cooks, organisers and performers who made this event so special.
