Congratulations to the High Country Rail Trail team on your successful Pick My Project bid!
The “Bridging the Gap between Tallangatta and Shelley” project will restore the final section of the historic High Country Rail Trail between Shelley and Wodonga. This section has been closed for some time since floods washed out a section of the Dry Forest Creek trestle bridge.
Over the past four years, the local community has invested $397,776 worth of time in fencing, weed control, felling and milling timber locally to restore five historic trestle bridges and establish low level crossings around another six water crossings.
The $91,300 successful project submission will ‘bridge the gap’ by restoring the historic Dry Forest Creek trestle bridge and laying a gravel trail surface, ensuring the 85km Shelley to Tallangatta to Wodonga rail trail is accessible to all on foot, bicycle and horse.
That so many votes were recieved amongst the many worthy local projects in this round of ‘Pick My Project’ is testament to the passion and interest of regional rail trail users. With them, Parklands looks forward to celebrating the completion of these amazing bridge restorations. We will be there, on our bikes, for the cutting of that ribbon!
