Bonegilla rail trail volunteers are celebrating another milestone in the High Country Rail Trail upgrade project as the bulldozer approaches the old toilet block at Huon Reserve.
The block – circa 1970 – is about to be demolished.
Recent increases in rail trail use mean the toilet facilities at Huon Reserve are already operating beyond capacity. It is expected that the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail extension from Beechworth to Huon will create even more traffic through Huon Reserve.
The toilets will be replaced to address increased use and improve the amenity of the reserve. The new facility will use designs developed by Indigo Shire Council for a low maintenance facility that will provide toilets of the standard and capacity required.
The landscaping component of this project is being managed by the Bonegilla Rail Trail Advisory Group under the auspices of Parklands Albury Wodonga. The toilet facility and associated utilities are being project managed by Indigo Shire Council, with financial support from the Australian Government, Indigo Shire Council, Goulburn Murray Water and Bonegilla Rail Trail Advisory Group.
Funded through the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund, these significant upgrades include resurfacing the rail trail from Wodonga to Sandy Creek, and upgrading the toilet facilities at Huon Reserve.
