This week Parklands Rangers were overwhelmed with the response to our two Night Walks, with close to 200 people experiencing the excitement of spotting native nightlife in our bush reserves.

On Monday night a crowd gathered at the Sustainable Activity Centre on Gateway Island to explore the bush along the riverside walking path. While the large number of participants proved a logistical challenge for the walk leaders, people were not disappointed with the results. Sightings included tawny frogmouths, ringtail and brushtail possums.

Felltimber Creek at Gordon Craig Park was the venue for Wednesday’s night walk. A smaller group walked the loop track in the park, spotting brushtail and ringtail possums, a frog and even a squirrel glider – a rare sight indeed!

Given the popularity of these walks, we have instigated a booking system with Eventbrite for future spotlighting events. This will enable us to provide the right amount of staff and allow numbers to be capped so that all participants have the chance to experience the thrill of spotting night creatures.
