National Tree Day was well celebrated this year, with successful events throughout the region at the end of July.

Parklands rangers Tim Alexander and David Saxton supported a team of 21 residents and friends of Padman-Mates Park to plant about 400 shrubs into the park. New faces and regular friends of the park were happy to turn out on such a lovely day, get a bit of welcome sun and help beautify the area.

The planting builds on previous restoration works which have significantly improved the park over the years. It will be followed up with chip bark mulch over the next couple of weeks and monitored for watering over summer.

In other National Tree Day sites, Baranduda Landcare had a great turnout with about 70 people planting in Frederick Streets Road, while Woolshed Thurgoona Landcare had a very successful event at Ernest Grant Park. Friends of Willow Park also had a great morning with more than 50 people helping plant 800 native plants in the park.

The Clyde Cameron Reserve group in Wodonga postponed their Schools Tree Day event until Monday 15th August due to flooding in the park, while the Wodonga Worplaces in Open Spaces partnership is celebrating Tree Day with the inaugural Business Planting day on Sunday 14th August.
