Kiewa area High Country Railtrail enthusiasts are now able to enjoy all season access along the tracks, thanks to a partnership project to construct boardwalks on sections prone to inundation over the winter.
With funding from the Federal government’s Community Development Grants Programme, Parklands have worked in partnership with Wilsons Transformers and the Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation to design, manufacture and install two metal boardwalks on the trail. Together the boardwalks comprise over half a kilometre of elevated trail along the Kiewa river floodplain sections of the High Country Railtrail.
Rangers Shane Vanderwerf, Stephen Murray, Andrew Murray and Trent Shultz can see the results of their work in the few short months since construction began. It has been an epic project requiring a high level of skill and craftsmanship, with some unique challenges to overcome.
Our thanks to the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development for funding this collaborative community project, our partners Wilson Transformers and Mungabareena Aboriginal Corporation for the supply of equipment and skilled personnel on such a challenging project, and all of the Parklands volunteers who worked hard to bring this to fruition.
