Parklands has partnered with the Albury Conservation Company to help install 100 nesting boxes for the endangered marsupials – squirrel gliders, tuan and phascogale – needing assistance in the Thurgoona and Splitters Creek areas.

The ‘Squirrel Glider Urban Nest Box Project’ will create places in private gardens for these beautiful nocturnal animals to sleep and breed where no suitable tree hollows exist at present. Each nestbox has potential to become a safe haven from which they can range at night to to feed in native gardens when the nectar is ripe.

The project is being coordinated by the Albury Conservation Company on behalf of the Slopes to Summit Great Eastern Ranges partnership.

Thurgoona Mens Shed have constructed 100 nestboxes and Parklands Albury Wodonga is assisting with the installation of these on private properties where needed.  This is a great opportunity for local residents to learn about and directly help to conserve a threatened species in their own backyard.
