Six of Wodonga’s artists and cultural organisations and five local events have received funding as part of the Wodonga Council’s contribution programs. The recipients were presented with their cheques by Cr Eric Kerr at a ceremony on Thursday, January 23.

Under the Arts and Cultural Contribution Program, individual artists and some of the Border’s well-known creative institutions have been recognised. They are:

• Hot House Theatre;
• Flying Fruit Fly Foundation;
• Lynette Callaghan (Auspiced by Creators Artspace Inc);
• Somebody’s Daughter Theatre Company;
• Umbrella Artist/Designers Collective (Auspiced by Murray Arts); and,
• Wodonga Citizens’ Band.

Organisations receiving Festival and Event Contribution Program funding are:

• Parklands Albury Wodonga for its Fishy Fun Run and Half Marathon;
• The Wodonga Basketball Association’s Junior Invitational Tournament;
• The Apex Club of Wodonga’s  Apex Station Cinemas;
• MEGAS Music for Music in the Park; and,
• The Wodonga RSL for this year’s Anzac Day.

Providing funding programs is one way the council supports organisations to continue their success. Events and cultural activities hosted by the community are a great way for residents of Wodonga to own, design and execute diverse and relevant opportunities for participation, celebration and engagement; in turn contributing to the vitality of the city. The grant will cover equipment hire and enable Parklands to keep the entry fees low, encouraging all and sundry to participate.

This year’s Fishy Fun Run and Half Marathon is planned for April 6th. There will be a 21km Half Marathon and 12km Trail Run starting at 9am on the Kiewa River at Killara and finishing at the Stockies Bridge. There will also be a 6km return walk option for those looking to take in the views along the Kiewa River walking track. This is a great event and we would love to see you there.
