The Green Army is a hands-on, practical, grassroots environmental action program that supports local environment and heritage conservation projects across Australia. 

The program provides opportunities for young Australians aged 17-24 to gain training and experience in environmental and heritage conservation fields and explore careers in conservation management, while participating in projects that generate real benefits for the environment and local communities.

Green Army teams of 10 people (up to nine participants and one team supervisor) will be deployed to projects lasting 20-26 weeks across Australia to help communities deliver local conservation outcomes. 

Parklands Albury-Wodonga have successfully bidded to host a Green Army crew in 2014/15. The Green Army crew over the six month project will enhance and extend the riparian bushlands around Albury Wodonga and along the High Country Rail Trail to Corryong. There will be a particular focus for works on waterways (Lake Hume, Murray River, Kiewa River and urban creeks) and improving community access through extending the Murray River (and tributaries) Nature Tourism Trail.

Parklands have taken on the Green Army project as an investment in buidling the skills and work prospects of the next generation of natural resource managers. It is a great opportunity for young people to kick start their career, working alongside Parklands Rangers and contributing to improving the bush reserves in our local area.
